Từ vựng & cấu trúc hay cho topic Helping Others (Level C1/C2)
Để thể hiện sự am hiểu ngôn ngữ sâu sắc, hãy thay thế các từ vựng thông thường bằng những cụm từ mang sắc thái biểu cảm cao hơn:

“Yes, absolutely. I find that lending a helping hand to those in need provides me with a profound sense of fulfillment. Whether it’s a small gesture or a significant favor, knowing that I’ve made someone’s day a bit easier is incredibly rewarding.”
Q2: Have you ever helped a stranger?
“Occasionally, yes. I remember once helping an elderly lady carry her heavy groceries up a flight of stairs. It was a simple act of kindness, but the look of genuine gratitude on her face was truly heartwarming.”
Q3: Did your parents teach you to help others?
“My parents were instrumental in fostering my altruistic nature. From a young age, they instilled in me the value of empathy, teaching me that we have a moral obligation to support those who are less fortunate than ourselves.”
Q4: What kind of help do you usually give to your friends?
“Most of the time, I provide emotional support. I try to be a good listener when they’re going through a rough patch. If they’re struggling with work, I’m always happy to go the extra mile to help them brainstorm solutions or proofread their documents.”
Q5: Is it important to help neighbors?
“I believe it’s vital for maintaining community cohesion. Having a supportive relationship with neighbors creates a safety net. Something as simple as watching their house while they’re away can foster a strong sense of trust and belonging.”

Cue card 1: Describe a time when you helped someone

I’d like to describe a time I helped a junior colleague at my previous workplace. She was a fresh graduate and was clearly feeling overwhelmed by a high-pressure project we were working on. She had been assigned to create a complex financial report, and it was evident she was at her wits’ end (cực kỳ bối rối/kiệt sức).
Seeing her struggle, I decided to step in. I spent a few hours after work for an entire week guiding her through the software and explaining the intricacies (sự phức tạp/chi tiết nhỏ) of the data analysis. I didn’t do the work for her; instead, I shared some tips and shortcuts that I had learned over the years to streamline the process.
Initially, she was a bit hesitant to accept help, but she soon realized that I was genuinely interested in her professional growth. By the end of the week, she had successfully completed the report, and our manager was highly impressed with the results.
The reason I felt so good about this was not just because the project was a success, but because I saw her confidence soar. It reminded me of when I was a novice and someone did the same for me. I believe in the philosophy of paying it forward (đáp nghĩa tiếp nối), and helping her was a perfect way to do that. It strengthened our professional bond and contributed to a more collaborative atmosphere in the office.
Cue card 2: Describe a volunteer experience you had

One of the most impactful experiences of my life was volunteering at a local shelter for underprivileged children last summer. I spent three months teaching basic English and organizing recreational activities for kids who came from disadvantaged backgrounds.
My main responsibility was to make learning fun, so I incorporated games, songs, and storytelling into the lessons. At first, many of the children were quite withdrawn and lacked confidence. However, through constant encouragement and a bit of patience, they slowly began to come out of their shells (trở nên dạn dĩ hơn).
It was a challenging experience because resources were scarce, but it forced me to be creative. I remember one boy in particular who struggled to read. After weeks of one-on-one sessions, the moment he successfully read a whole paragraph was incredibly emotional for both of us.
This experience taught me the true meaning of selflessness. It made me realize how much of an impact a small amount of time and effort can have on someone’s life. It shifted my perspective and made me much more grateful for the opportunities I have. It wasn’t just about teaching English; it was about providing these children with a sense of hope and validation (sự công nhận), which is something every child deserves.

“I think it stems from an innate human need for connection and the psychological rewards of altruism. When we help others, our brains release chemicals that make us feel happy—often called a ‘helper’s high.’ Furthermore, it provides a sense of purpose and strengthens social bonds, which are essential for our mental well-being.”
Q2: Should schools reward students for helping others? (Type: Opinion)
“That’s a contentious issue (vấn đề gây tranh cãi). On one hand, rewards can incentivize children to be more helpful and mindful of others. However, there’s a risk that they might start helping only for the sake of the reward, rather than out of genuine compassion. I believe schools should focus on fostering an environment where kindness is seen as its own reward, perhaps through verbal recognition rather than material prizes.”
Q3: Do you think people nowadays help others more than in the past? (Type: Comparison)
“It’s hard to say definitively. In the past, people lived in tight-knit communities where helping neighbors was a matter of survival. Nowadays, while we might be more disconnected physically, technology has enabled us to help on a global scale through crowdfunding (gây quỹ cộng đồng) and digital volunteering. So, while the nature of help has changed, the fundamental impulse to assist others remains the same.”
Q4: What are the roles of the government in helping people? (Type: Responsibility)
“Governments have a fiduciary responsibility (trách nhiệm pháp lý/ủy thác) to provide a social safety net for their citizens. This includes ensuring access to healthcare, education, and social security. While individual charity is noble, it cannot replace the systematic support that a government can provide to alleviate poverty and ensure social equity on a national scale.”
Q5: Is it always good to help someone? (Type: Pros & Cons/Difficult)
“Not necessarily. There is a fine line between helping someone and enabling (tạo điều kiện cho sự ỷ lại) a lack of responsibility. If you constantly solve someone’s problems for them, they may become overly dependent and fail to develop the necessary skills to handle challenges independently. This is often referred to as ‘toxic help.’ Therefore, the best kind of assistance is often that which empowers people to help themselves in the long run.”
