Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 1 topic: Day Off
Ở Part 1, hãy trả lời tự nhiên, linh hoạt kết hợp giữa các hoạt động (ngủ, dọn dẹp) và cảm xúc (hồi phục năng lượng).
Question 1: What do you usually do on your days off?
Sample: It really depends on how I’m feeling. Sometimes I just want a lazy day, so I stay in bed a bit longer and catch up on sleep. Other times I run errands that I don’t have time for during the week, like grocery shopping or cleaning the house. If the weather’s nice, I might also meet up with friends or go for a walk somewhere quiet.
Question 2: Do you prefer to spend your day off alone or with others?
Sample: I think it depends on how tired I am. If I’ve had a really busy week, I prefer to spend the day alone so I can unwind without having to talk to anyone. But if I’m not that exhausted, I’d rather spend quality time with family or friends, because socialising actually helps me feel refreshed too.
Question 3: Is it important to have a day off every week?
Sample: Definitely. I think everyone needs at least one day off a week to avoid burnout. If you keep working non-stop, you eventually become less productive and more stressed, so a break actually helps you perform better afterwards. It’s also important for maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
Question 4: What did you do on your last day off?
Sample: On my last day off, I didn’t really plan ahead, so it ended up being quite spontaneous. I woke up late, had a big breakfast, and then decided to visit a café with a friend. In the afternoon, I watched a couple of episodes of a series I’d been meaning to finish. It wasn’t anything special, but it was exactly what I needed at the time.

Đề bài: Describe a day off that you enjoyed.
You should say:
-
When it was
-
What you did
-
Who you spent it with
-
And explain why you enjoyed it
Sample Answer:
I’d like to talk about a day off I had a few months ago, right after I’d finished a particularly stressful project at work. I remember it was a Friday, and I’d taken the day off specifically to recharge my batteries before the weekend.
I didn’t plan much in advance — I just wanted a completely lazy day. I woke up without an alarm for the first time in weeks, which already felt amazing. In the morning, I made myself a proper breakfast instead of rushing out the door, and I spent a couple of hours just reading a book I’d been putting off for ages.
Later that day, I met up with a close friend who also happened to be off work. We didn’t do anything extravagant; we just went to a local café, chatted for hours, and then took a slow walk around a nearby lake. In the evening, we grabbed some street food and I came home fairly early, feeling pleasantly tired rather than exhausted.
I enjoyed that day so much mainly because there was no pressure to be productive. I wasn’t checking my phone for work messages or thinking about deadlines, which made a huge difference to how relaxed I felt. Spending time with a good friend also made it more meaningful than if I’d just stayed home alone. Looking back, that day really taught me the value of unplugging completely, and I’ve tried to make time for days like that more often since then.
Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Nghỉ ngơi & Văn hóa làm việc
Ở Part 3, giám khảo sẽ mở rộng vấn đề sang khía cạnh xã hội: văn hóa làm việc, áp lực thời đại số và sự thay đổi trong cách giải trí.
Question 1: Why do people need days off from work or study?
Sample: I think rest is essential for both mental and physical health. When people work or study continuously without a break, they tend to become less focused and more prone to mistakes, which can actually reduce productivity in the long run. A day off gives people the chance to recharge, spend time on hobbies, or simply catch up on sleep properly, all of which help them return to work with more energy and a clearer mind.
Question 2: Do you think people nowadays get enough days off?
Sample: It really varies depending on the country and the industry. In some places, employees are entitled to generous annual leave and public holidays, whereas in others, especially in competitive industries, people are expected to work long hours with very little time off. I’d say that in general, many people don’t get enough genuine rest, because even on their days off, they still feel pressured to check emails or stay connected to work through their phones.
Question 3: How do people in your country usually spend their days off differently from the past?
Sample: In the past, people tended to spend their days off doing simple things close to home, like visiting relatives or relaxing in the garden, mainly because travelling was less convenient and more expensive. Nowadays, with better transport and more disposable income, people are more likely to go on short trips, try new restaurants, or plan activities outside the city. Social media has also changed things a bit, since people often look for places that are good for photos rather than just somewhere to relax.
Chủ đề “Day Off” là cơ hội tuyệt vời để bạn sử dụng các cụm từ miêu tả sự thư giãn và sự cân bằng trong cuộc sống. Hãy ghi chép lại các cấu trúc “ăn điểm” như unplugging completely, recharge my batteries hay avoid burnout mà thầy Nguyễn Đình Nguyên đã chia sẻ để bài nói thêm phần thuyết phục và tự nhiên.
