Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 2
Đề bài (Cue Card): Describe a person who has interesting ideas or opinions. You should say:
-
who this person is
-
how you know this person
-
what kind of ideas or opinions this person has
-
and explain why you find this person’s ideas or opinions interesting.
Sample Answer:
I’d like to talk about one of my close friends, who I’ve known since university. We have quite different personalities, but that’s probably why I enjoy talking to her so much. She’s the kind of person who can look at an ordinary situation and come up with an idea that never occurs to anyone else.
One thing I find interesting about her is that she doesn’t automatically accept the way things have always been done. For example, when we were working on a group assignment, most of us wanted to divide the work in the usual way and prepare separate sections. However, she suggested that we first agree on one central argument and then build the whole presentation around it. She explained that this would make our work more coherent and help us avoid repeating the same points. At first, I thought it would take more time, but in the end, her approach made the presentation much clearer.
She also has an open mind. Even when she strongly believes in something, she is willing to listen to other people and reconsider her opinion if they give convincing reasons. I think this is quite rare, because some people treat a disagreement as a personal attack rather than an opportunity to learn.
I find her ideas interesting because they challenge my assumptions and encourage me to think outside the box. I don’t necessarily agree with everything she says, but talking to her helps me see the bigger picture. She has taught me that having good ideas isn’t just about being clever; it’s also about being curious, listening carefully, and being willing to change your mind.
💡 Chiến thuật làm bài từ cô Thanh Nhàn: Thay vì chỉ liệt kê các tính từ miêu tả tính cách (thông minh, sáng tạo), bài nói sử dụng một ví dụ cụ thể (specific example) về việc làm bài tập nhóm để chứng minh cho khả năng “question the status quo” của nhân vật. Lập luận ở đoạn cuối cũng rất sâu sắc khi định nghĩa lại việc có ý tưởng hay không chỉ là sự thông minh mà còn là sự cởi mở (being willing to change your mind).
Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3 – Creativity & Opinions
Question 1: Do you think creativity is important in everyday life?
Sample: Yes, definitely. Creativity is not limited to artists or people working in creative industries; it is useful in everyday situations as well. For example, when people face a problem at work or at home, thinking outside the box can help them find a simpler or more practical solution. It can also make daily routines more enjoyable because people are willing to try new approaches instead of doing everything in the same way. In my view, creativity is especially valuable when the usual method no longer works.
Question 2: Why do some people find it difficult to accept opinions that are different from their own?
Sample: I think one reason is that people often connect their opinions with their identity, so disagreement can make them feel that they are being criticised personally. Another reason is that people tend to look for information that supports what they already believe, rather than considering alternative viewpoints. This can make them less willing to listen, even when the other person has a reasonable argument. That is why it is important to stay open-minded and remember that changing your opinion after hearing convincing evidence is not a sign of weakness.
Question 3: Should children be encouraged to express opinions that differ from their parents’ views?
Sample: Yes, as long as they learn to express themselves respectfully. Allowing children to explain why they think differently helps them develop critical-thinking and communication skills. Instead of simply telling them that they are wrong, parents can ask questions such as “What makes you think that?” or “Can you give me an example?” This encourages children to support their opinions with reasons rather than just repeating what they have heard. Of course, parents can still set boundaries, but children should also understand that disagreement does not have to lead to conflict.
Question 4: How can people become more creative?
Sample: One way is to expose themselves to different experiences and viewpoints, because new information can help them make unexpected connections between ideas. For instance, reading widely, travelling, learning a new skill, or talking to people from different backgrounds can broaden their horizons. It is also useful to ask questions and avoid assuming that the first solution is always the best one. Finally, people need to feel comfortable making mistakes, since creative ideas often develop through trial and error rather than appearing fully formed.
Question 5: Is it always good to challenge traditional ideas?
Sample: Not necessarily. Some traditional ideas are based on experience and can still be useful, so rejecting them simply because they are old would not make sense. However, traditions should not be followed blindly, especially if they no longer meet people’s needs or lead to unfair outcomes. I think the best approach is to examine traditional ideas critically, consider the evidence, and keep what works while being willing to change what does not. In other words, questioning an idea should be about finding a better solution, not just opposing something for the sake of it.
