Question 2: Do you often go to rivers or lakes?

Sample: Fairly often, actually. On weekends, I like to take a stroll around the lake in the early morning before it gets too crowded. It’s a great way to clear my head after a busy week, and watching the mist rise off the water is surprisingly calming.

Question 3: Did you play near rivers when you were a child?

Sample: Definitely. I grew up in the countryside, and there was a small river running right behind my grandparents’ house. My cousins and I used to spend entire summer afternoons splashing around in the shallow water and trying to catch tiny fish with our bare hands. Looking back, those were some of the most carefree days of my life.

Question 4: Do you prefer rivers and lakes or the sea?

Sample: To be honest, I’d pick lakes over the sea. Beaches are lovely, but they tend to be packed with tourists, especially in the summer, and the waves can be a bit intense for me. A lake, on the other hand, feels much more peaceful. I can just sit by the water with a cup of coffee and not worry about anything.

Sample Answer:

I’d like to talk about a trip I took along the Mekong River in Can Tho, which is in the south of Vietnam. I went there with my university classmates about two years ago, right after we finished our final exams, so we were all in the mood to celebrate and explore somewhere new.

The highlight of the trip was definitely the Cai Rang floating market. We had to wake up at around 5 a.m. to catch it at its busiest, which was a bit of a struggle, but it was absolutely worth it. Dozens of boats were packed with fruit and vegetables, and the sellers hung samples of what they were selling on tall poles so buyers could spot them from a distance. I’d seen photos of it before, but nothing compared to experiencing it in person.

After that, we took a boat ride through some narrow canals lined with lush greenery. We stopped at a local orchard, where the owners treated us to fresh fruit straight from the trees. What struck me most was how much people’s lives revolved around the river. It wasn’t just a scenic spot; it was their source of food, transport, and income.

Overall, the trip left a lasting impression on me. It made me appreciate how differently people live in other parts of my own country, and it’s something I’d love to do again, maybe with my family next time.

Question 1: Why do people like living near rivers or lakes?

Sample: I think there are both practical and emotional reasons. Historically, people settled near rivers because they provided water for drinking and farming. Nowadays, it’s more about quality of life. Being near water gives people a sense of calm and a place to exercise or relax, which is especially valuable in crowded cities.

Question 2: What are the main causes of river pollution in your country?

Sample: The biggest culprits are probably untreated waste from factories and households. In some big cities, wastewater is discharged straight into rivers without proper treatment. On top of that, a lack of public awareness means some people still litter along the riverbanks. As a result, several rivers in urban areas have become heavily polluted and, frankly, unpleasant to be near.

Question 3: Who should be responsible for keeping rivers and lakes clean?

Sample: I’d say it’s a shared responsibility. The government plays the most important role because it has the power to enforce stricter regulations and invest in wastewater treatment plants. However, individuals also need to do their part, for example by not throwing rubbish into the water. Without public cooperation, even the best policies won’t be fully effective.

Question 4: Does tourism have a positive or negative impact on rivers and lakes?

Sample: It’s a double-edged sword. On the plus side, tourism brings income to local communities and can encourage authorities to protect these areas since they’re valuable attractions. On the downside, large numbers of visitors can lead to litter, noise, and damage to the natural environment. So I think the key lies in managing tourism sustainably rather than simply limiting it.
