Bộ từ vựng & Collocations ăn điểm

Thay vì cố gắng ghi nhớ từng từ riêng lẻ, bạn nên học theo cụm từ (collocations) và áp dụng vào ngữ cảnh cụ thể. Ví dụ, khi nói về một đám cưới, hãy kết hợp: memorable occasion – exchange vows – lovely atmosphere – speak from the heart.

Ở Part 1, hãy tập trung vào trải nghiệm và sở thích cá nhân. Trả lời trực tiếp, sau đó bổ sung lý do hoặc một trải nghiệm cụ thể mà không cần lập luận quá phức tạp.

Question 1: Do you enjoy celebrating your birthday?

Sample: I used to, especially when I was a child. I’d get butterflies in my stomach as my birthday got closer, and I’d even count down the days. Now that I’m grown up, though, that excitement has faded. It doesn’t feel as special as it used to.

Question 2: How do you usually celebrate your birthday?

Sample: I like to keep it simple. I usually go out for a nice meal, maybe try a dish I’ve never had before, and spend time chatting with my loved ones. I prefer to keep the guest list small because I feel more comfortable with people I’m close to.

Question 3: Did you have birthday parties when you were a child?

Sample: Of course. My parents threw me a birthday party every year. We couldn’t afford to have one at a fancy restaurant, so we’d invite our relatives over and prepare the food ourselves. They were simple gatherings, but I can still picture them vividly to this day.

Question 4: Do you prefer large parties or small gatherings?

Sample: Honestly, large parties scare me. I consider myself an introvert, so having strangers come up to me and start conversations, and then trying to keep those conversations going can feel like a nightmare. I’d much rather be with a small group of people I’ve known for years. With them, I can relax and be myself.

Đề bài (Cue Card):

Describe an important event that you celebrated. You should say:

• what the event was

• when and where you celebrated it

• who you celebrated it with

• and explain why the event was important to you.

Sample Answer:

I’d like to talk about my best friend’s wedding, which I attended about a year ago. It was especially meaningful because I’d known both the bride and groom for years. The bride was a friend from high school, and the groom was a colleague of mine. At most weddings I’ve attended, I’ve only known one of the couple well, so this one felt much more personal.

The reception was held at the Sheraton. The venue looked absolutely dreamy, and I have to give credit to the team who decorated it. They created such a lovely atmosphere.

What made the day truly memorable, though, was witnessing two people I care about become life partners. I was particularly touched when they exchanged vows. Their words were so genuine that I remember thinking I’d like to do something similar at my own wedding one day.

To top it all off, the couple had asked me the day before to give a short speech. I didn’t prepare a full script; I just noted down a few ideas and spoke from the heart. Being able to share my feelings in front of their friends and family made the occasion even more special. That moment has stayed with me ever since.

Bài nói được triển khai chặt chẽ theo trình tự: Event → People & Place → Memorable moments → Personal feelings. Question 1: Why do people celebrate important events?

Sample: I think one of the main reasons is to create a kind of collective memory. People want to share an important moment with those close to them so that, years later, they have something meaningful to look back on together.

Question 2: Which life events are commonly celebrated in your country?

Sample: Birthdays are an obvious example, just as they are in many other countries. In Vietnam, families also celebrate when a student does exceptionally well in a national exam and gets into a prestigious university. Education is highly valued here, so that achievement is seen as a major milestone and a sign of a promising academic future.

Question 3: Why are some people willing to spend a lot of money on celebrations?

Sample: The main reason is probably that they want to make the occasion as memorable as possible. They might book a fancy restaurant, hire a singer or a band, and spend a lot on decorations to make the venue look impressive. I don’t want to sound cynical, but for some people, a celebration is also a chance to show off. That’s why some parties become quite extravagant.

Question 4: Do you think a celebration needs to be expensive to be meaningful?

Sample: No, I don’t think so. Admittedly, spending more can make a celebration more enjoyable. You can have great food, a comfortable venue, music, and even a professional MC. But none of those extras can replace genuine moments shared with loved ones. To me, the meaning of a celebration boils down to being together and creating memories we can look back on years later. That’s something money can’t buy.
