Để giúp các bạn tự tin ghi điểm, thầy Đặng Quốc Thịnh – Giáo viên 8.5 IELTS tại trung tâm Ngoại ngữ ECE đã biên soạn trọn bộ bài mẫu cho cả 3 phần thi Speaking xoay quanh chủ đề “Describe a person you met at a party who you enjoyed talking with”.
Question 1: Do you like going to parties?
Sample: I used to. Back in the day, when I was an energetic university student, I was a real party animal. I would head out to parties every weekend, be it a friend’s birthday or someone celebrating a new job.
Question 2: Do you prefer small parties or large parties?
Sample: I would always go for a small, intimate party with my loved ones because I feel more comfortable sharing special moments with people I have known for years. What’s more, a small party also means less of an aftermath. I couldn’t imagine having a huge mess waiting to be cleaned up after a big party.
Question 3: Is it easy for you to talk to new people at parties?
Sample: Even though I consider myself an introvert, I wouldn’t sweat it if someone approached me and started a conversation. I think I can maintain a polite conversation without saying anything awkward or accidentally offending them.
Question 4: Have you ever organised a party?
Sample: Absolutely. I have thrown a few birthday parties of my own. To make them feel warmer and more intimate, I held them at home instead of at a restaurant. Most of the guests were my relatives, so the parties also felt like family gatherings. I prepared the food myself with the help of my mum. I still have fond memories of those celebrations whenever I think back on them.

Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 2 – Describe a person
Đề bài: Describe a person you met at a party who you enjoyed talking with.
You should say:
-
What party it was
-
Who this person was
-
How you met this person
-
What you talked about
-
And explain why you enjoyed talking with this person.
Sample Answer:
It’s been quite a long time since I last went to a party. However, one person whom I met and spoke to for the first time at last year’s year-end party really left an impression on me.
At the end of the year, my company organised an intimate party for all the staff to look back on what we had achieved throughout the year and spend time together over good food and karaoke.
It was my first year working at the company, so I didn’t know many people. When we started eating, I introduced myself to some colleagues sitting at the same table so that I could get to know them. Most of them were teachers and tutors, just like me, teaching a wide range of courses. We talked a lot about our teaching experiences and future plans in education. Among my fellow teachers, I was particularly impressed by a tutor who was about to graduate and planned to pursue a career as a professional teacher.
What really made her stand out was the passion she had for the job, and it came through clearly in the way she spoke. She proudly told me that she was going to graduate with distinction, which was definitely a flex, considering how demanding her university programme was. What made her an even more engaging conversationalist was her energy, which was reflected in her lively tone and expressive intonation. For a while, she was the centre of attention at our table, and everyone listened attentively as she shared her stories.
I left the party feeling extremely happy because I had not only found more like-minded people like her but had also been inspired by them. I can’t wait for the next company party so that I can catch up with her and hear what she has been up to.

Question 1: How do people normally start a conversation?
Sample: You may find it strange, but in my culture, people often spark a conversation by asking, “Have you eaten yet?” The question should not be taken literally; rather, it is a warm and affectionate way of showing care for others. People from Western cultures may initially find the question slightly personal, but once they understand the meaning behind it, they often find it very thoughtful and caring.
Question 2: What qualities make someone easy to talk to?
Sample: In my opinion, apart from friendliness, being open-minded makes someone easy to talk to. This quality allows them to welcome other people’s ideas and opinions, even when they are completely different from their own. It is crucial in communication because it makes the other person feel heard, encouraging them to share more and keep the conversation going.
Question 3: Are face-to-face communication skills still important nowadays?
Sample: While acknowledging the rise of alternative communication methods, especially technology-based ones, I still contend that face-to-face interactions hold great value. Being articulate in real-life interactions can benefit people both academically and professionally. For example, when giving a presentation or making a pitch, a charming and articulate speaker can win the audience over more easily than someone who often hesitates or appears shy.
Question 4: Has technology changed the way people form relationships?
Sample: Yes, modern technology has changed the way people form new relationships for good. In the past, people could only get to know each other through face-to-face interactions, and their social circles were much smaller. These days, people can even date someone they have only met online. Technology has also expanded people’s social circles, making it much easier to form relationships with people from other countries.
💡 Bảng từ vựng về mảng xã hội (Part 3)
| Từ vựng / Cụm từ | Ý nghĩa |
| Spark a conversation | Khơi mào, bắt đầu một cuộc trò chuyện. |
| Taken literally | Được hiểu theo nghĩa đen. |
| Open-minded (adj) | Cởi mở, sẵn sàng tiếp thu những quan điểm khác biệt. |
| Articulate (adj) | Hoạt ngôn, có khả năng diễn đạt ý tưởng lưu loát. |
| Win the audience over | Thu phục, thuyết phục thành công khán giả. |
| Social circles | Vòng tròn xã hội, mạng lưới các mối quan hệ. |
