PART 1

How do you keep yourself healthy?

I try to stay active by doing moderate exercise like jogging and yoga at least three times a week. Also, I make a conscious effort to maintain a nutritious diet and get enough sleep. I believe consistency is the key to sustaining overall well-being in the long run.

Highlighted vocabulary:

  • moderate (adj): average in amount or intensity
  • nutritious (adj): rich in nutrients
  • well-being (n): the state of being comfortable, healthy, or happy

Do you think you have a balanced diet?

I’d say my diet is fairly balanced, though there’s always room for improvement. I try to incorporate a variety of whole foods and limit processed products as much as possible. That said, I do occasionally indulge in comfort food to satisfy cravings.

Highlighted vocabulary:

  • incorporate (v): to include or integrate
  • whole foods (n): foods that are unprocessed and unrefined
  • indulge (v): to allow oneself to enjoy a particular pleasure

Do you have any unhealthy habits?

To be honest, I tend to stay up late when I’m overloaded with work, which definitely disrupts my sleep cycle. Another bad habit is that I sometimes skip breakfast, even though I know it’s detrimental to my metabolism. I’m trying to address these issues to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Highlighted vocabulary:

  • overloaded (adj): having too much to do
  • disrupts (v): to interrupt or cause a disturbance
  • detrimental (adj): tending to cause harm

PART 2

Describe a piece of advice about health that you find useful

You should say:

  • What it is
  • Where you got it
  • When we should apply it

***

One piece of advice about health that I’ve found incredibly valuable is to prioritise getting enough sleep every single night. It might sound simple, but I feel that in today’s fast-paced world, a lot of people, myself included, tend to underestimate the power of good-quality rest.

I first came across this advice during a wellness seminar at my university a few years ago. There was a guest speaker who was a sleep specialist, and he explained in detail how lack of sleep can weaken our immune system, affect our concentration, and even lead to long-term health problems like heart disease or depression. I remember being genuinely shocked at how much of an impact poor sleep can have on both physical and mental well-being.

I think this advice should really be applied every day, but especially during stressful periods when people are tempted to stay up late to work or study. I’ve learned the hard way that pulling an all-nighter might help you finish something in the short term, but it usually backfires because you end up feeling exhausted and less productive the next day.

Since then, I’ve tried to stick to a consistent sleep schedule, aiming for at least seven to eight hours a night. Whenever I follow this habit, I feel more energised, focused, and even in a better mood during the day. I’ve also shared this advice with my friends and family because I genuinely believe that good sleep is one of the easiest yet most underrated ways to maintain our overall health.

Highlighted Vocab:

  1. prioritise (v)
  2. fast-paced (adj)
  3. underestimate (v)
  4. wellness seminar (n phrase)
  5. sleep specialist (n)
  6. immune system (n)
  7. concentration (n)
  8. long-term health problems (n phrase)
  9. genuinely shocked (adj phrase)
  10. mental well-being (n)
  11. stressful periods (n phrase)
  12. tempted to (v phrase)
  13. pull an all-nighter (idiom)
  14. backfires (v)
  15. consistent sleep schedule (n phrase)
  16. energised (adj)
  17. underrated (adj)

Tips for your practice

  1. Turn advice into a real-life story

Don’t just state the advice. Mention who gave it to you, the context, and how you applied it. This makes your response sound more natural and personal.

  1. Use health-related collocations

Examples: boost the immune system, maintain mental well-being, develop healthy habits, suffer from sleep deprivation.

  1. Add personal reflections and experiences

– Clearly state how you felt after applying the advice (I feel more energised and productive).
– Compare your life before and after following the advice.

  1. Use advanced grammar where appropriate

Combine relative clauses (the advice that I got from…), conditional sentences (If I don’t get enough sleep, I find it hard to focus), or participle clauses (Having listened to that seminar, I completely changed my routine).

  1. Use natural linkers

Use connecting phrases like: Honestly speaking, Looking back, To this day, What’s more, That being said — but don’t overdo it.

PART 3

1. Why do you think some people continue bad habits when they know that they are damaging to their health?

Sample Answer:

I think one major reason is that breaking bad habits often requires a lot of willpower, which not everyone has in abundance. Many unhealthy behaviours, like smoking or overeating, can be deeply ingrained coping mechanisms for stress. Additionally, some people tend to underestimate the long-term consequences because the negative effects aren’t always immediately visible. This sense of invincibility can make them feel immune to health risks. Ultimately, without strong motivation or support, people often stick to harmful routines despite knowing the dangers.

Highlighted Vocabulary:

  1. willpower (n)
  2. in abundance (phr)
  3. ingrained (adj)
  4. coping mechanism (n)
  5. underestimate (v)
  6. invincibility (n)
  7. immune (adj)

2. Do you think people have become more health-conscious in recent years?

Sample Answer:

Yes, I believe people have generally become more health-conscious, partly because there is far more information available about healthy lifestyles than before. Social media and news outlets constantly highlight the importance of balanced diets and regular exercise, which raises public awareness. Moreover, the pandemic made people realise how crucial it is to strengthen their immune system and practise good hygiene. However, while awareness has increased, not everyone has turned this knowledge into real action. So I’d say the trend is positive, but there’s still room for improvement.

Highlighted Vocabulary:

  1. health-conscious (adj)
  2. balanced diet (n)
  3. public awareness (n)
  4. strengthen (v)
  5. immune system (n)
  6. hygiene (n)

3. How can people improve their physical health?

Sample Answer:

To begin with, maintaining a consistent exercise routine is one of the most effective ways to boost physical well-being. Whether it’s jogging, swimming, or going to the gym, staying active helps control weight and reduces the risk of chronic illnesses. Additionally, people should pay close attention to their diet by limiting ready meals and incorporating more fresh produce. Getting adequate sleep and managing stress levels also contribute significantly to good health. All these habits combined can lead to a more energetic and fulfilling lifestyle.

Highlighted Vocabulary:

  1. maintain (v)
  2. boost (v)
  3. well-being (n)
  4. chronic illness (n)
  5. ready meal (n)
  6. adequate (adj)
  7. fulfilling (adj)

4. In what ways can teachers encourage students to do sports?

Sample Answer:

Teachers can play a vital role by making physical activities more engaging and inclusive for all students. For instance, they could introduce a variety of sports so that everyone can find something they enjoy, rather than forcing competitive games only. Furthermore, teachers should emphasise the benefits of sports, such as teamwork and stress relief, to motivate students intrinsically. Organising friendly tournaments or reward systems might also boost participation rates. Ultimately, creating a supportive environment where students feel confident to try new activities is key.

Highlighted Vocabulary:

  1. engaging (adj)
  2. inclusive (adj)
  3. competitive (adj)
  4. emphasise (v)
  5. intrinsically (adv)
  6. tournament (n)
  7. supportive (adj)

5. What is the role of doctors in raising health awareness?

Sample Answer:

Doctors have a significant responsibility in educating the public about preventative healthcare. They can provide accurate information about risks and early detection of diseases during consultations, which empowers patients to make informed decisions. In addition, many doctors participate in community outreach programs or give public talks to spread awareness about issues like vaccination and healthy living. Their professional credibility means people are more likely to trust and follow their advice. Overall, doctors are not just healers but also educators and advocates for public health.

Highlighted Vocabulary:

  1. preventative (adj)
  2. accurate (adj)
  3. detection (n)
  4. empower (v)
  5. outreach program (n)
  6. credibility (n)
  7. advocate (n)
