Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 1
Question 1: Do you like looking at yourself in the mirror?
Yes, I do, although I wouldn’t say I’m obsessed with my appearance. I usually take a quick look in the mirror before I leave home to make sure my hair and clothes look presentable. It’s more of a practical habit than anything else.
-
obsessed with = quá ám ảnh/bận tâm về
-
appearance = ngoại hình
-
presentable = trông chỉnh tề, tươm tất
-
practical habit = thói quen mang tính thực tế
Question 2: Would you use mirrors to decorate your room?
Definitely. I think mirrors can be a really effective part of home décor, especially in a small room. They can reflect natural light and make the space feel more spacious. Personally, I’d probably choose a simple full-length mirror with a wooden frame because it would look both practical and stylish.
-
home décor = trang trí nội thất
-
reflect natural light = phản chiếu ánh sáng tự nhiên
-
make the space feel more spacious = khiến không gian có cảm giác rộng hơn
-
full-length mirror = gương toàn thân
-
wooden frame = khung gỗ
Question 3: Do you usually take a mirror with you?
Not usually. I don’t really see the need to carry a mirror around because I can normally find one in a restroom or a shop. That said, I might take a compact mirror with me if I’m going somewhere special, such as a wedding or a formal event.
-
see the need to = thấy cần phải
-
carry something around = mang theo bên mình
-
compact mirror = gương nhỏ/gương bỏ túi
-
formal event = sự kiện trang trọng
-
Structure: Not usually. + reason + That said, + exception
Question 4: Have you ever bought a mirror?
Yes, quite a few times. The last one I bought was a full-length mirror for my bedroom. I chose it mainly because I wanted something that was functional but also fitted in with the overall style of the room. It’s now one of the most useful pieces of furniture I have.
-
full-length mirror = gương toàn thân
-
functional = có tính thực dụng
-
fit in with = phù hợp với
-
overall style = phong cách tổng thể
-
piece of furniture = một món đồ nội thất
Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 2
Describe a mirror that you like using.
You should say:
-
where it is
-
what it looks like
-
when you use it
-
and explain why you like using it.
Sample Answer:
I’d like to talk about a full-length mirror that I have in my bedroom. I’ve had it for around two years, and although it’s a fairly ordinary household item, I’ve actually grown quite attached to it.
It’s positioned next to my wardrobe, so it’s probably one of the first things I see when I get up in the morning. It’s quite tall and rectangular, with a simple wooden frame. What I particularly like about it is its minimalist design. It doesn’t take up much space, but it makes the room feel brighter and more spacious because it reflects quite a lot of natural light.
I mainly use it when I’m getting ready to go somewhere. For example, I’ll stand in front of it to check whether my clothes go well together and whether I look presentable before leaving the house. I sometimes use it before an important occasion as well, just to make sure everything is in place.
The main reason I like this mirror is that it’s both practical and aesthetically pleasing. More importantly, it has become part of my daily routine. Whenever I see my reflection before going out, it gives me a sense that I’m properly prepared for the day. So, although it’s just a mirror, I’d definitely miss it if I didn’t have it.
Vocabulary Highlight:

full-length mirror: gương toàn thân

grown attached to: dần trở nên gắn bó với
-
household item: đồ dùng trong nhà

feel brighter and more spacious: cảm thấy sáng và rộng hơn

Bài mẫu IELTS Speaking Part 3
Question 1: Why do you think mirrors are important in our daily lives?
I think mirrors serve both practical and psychological purposes. On a practical level, people use them to check their appearance, get ready for work or school, and make sure their clothes and hair are presentable. On a psychological level, looking at ourselves can influence our self-image and confidence. So, although a mirror is a fairly simple object, it can actually play quite an important role in our everyday lives.
-
serve a purpose = có một mục đích/chức năng
-
practical purpose = mục đích thực tế
-
psychological purpose = mục đích/tác động về mặt tâm lý
-
self-image = hình ảnh bản thân
-
presentable = chỉnh tề
-
everyday lives = cuộc sống hằng ngày
Question 2: Do you think mirrors can affect the way people see themselves?
Yes, to some extent. The way people perceive their reflection can influence their self-esteem, particularly if they constantly compare their appearance with unrealistic images in the media. Social media can make this problem even more noticeable because people are exposed to heavily edited photographs on a daily basis. That said, I think a person’s self-image is shaped by many factors, so mirrors themselves aren’t necessarily the main cause.
-
to some extent = ở một mức độ nào đó
-
perceive = nhận thức/cảm nhận
-
self-esteem = lòng tự trọng, sự tự tin về bản thân
-
compare A with B = so sánh A với B
-
unrealistic images = hình ảnh phi thực tế
-
be exposed to = tiếp xúc với
-
heavily edited photographs = những bức ảnh được chỉnh sửa nhiều
-
self-image = hình ảnh bản thân
-
main cause = nguyên nhân chính
Question 3: In what ways are mirrors used in art or architecture?
Mirrors can be used in several creative ways. In architecture, for example, they can create an illusion of space by making a small room appear much larger than it actually is. In contemporary art, artists sometimes use mirrors to make viewers reflect on their own identity or perception of reality. So, mirrors aren’t necessarily just functional objects; they can also be used as a symbolic and artistic medium.
-
create an illusion of space = tạo ảo giác về không gian
-
appear much larger = trông lớn hơn nhiều
-
contemporary art = nghệ thuật đương đại
-
reflect on = suy ngẫm về
-
perception of reality = nhận thức về thực tại
-
functional object = vật thể mang tính công năng
-
symbolic = mang tính biểu tượng
-
artistic medium = phương tiện/chất liệu nghệ thuật
Question 4: Do you think advertising influences the way people feel when they look in the mirror?
Yes, I think it can have a significant influence. Advertising often presents a very narrow definition of what is considered attractive, and this can lead people to become overly concerned about their appearance. For example, when people constantly see images of supposedly perfect faces and bodies, they may start comparing themselves with those unrealistic standards. However, I wouldn’t say advertising is entirely responsible, because family, culture and personal experiences also shape people’s attitudes towards appearance.
-
have a significant influence = có ảnh hưởng đáng kể
-
a narrow definition of = định nghĩa/quan niệm hạn hẹp về
-
attractive = hấp dẫn
-
overly concerned about = quá quan tâm đến
-
supposedly perfect = được cho là hoàn hảo
-
unrealistic standards = những tiêu chuẩn phi thực tế
-
be entirely responsible = hoàn toàn chịu trách nhiệm
-
shape people’s attitudes = định hình quan điểm/thái độ của con người
Question 5: Why might some people avoid looking at themselves in the mirror?
There could be several reasons. Some people may simply be in a hurry or have little interest in their appearance. Others, however, might feel self-conscious about how they look, particularly if they have developed a negative body image. Another possibility is that they don’t want to become overly focused on their appearance. So, avoiding mirrors isn’t necessarily a sign that someone lacks confidence; it could simply reflect their personal habits or attitudes.
-
be in a hurry = đang vội
-
self-conscious = ngại ngùng/tự ti về bản thân
-
negative body image = nhận thức tiêu cực về hình ảnh cơ thể
-
become overly focused on = trở nên quá tập trung vào
-
lack confidence = thiếu tự tin
-
reflect personal attitudes = phản ánh quan điểm cá nhân
