3. IELTS Speaking Part 1 Sample – Topic: Animal
Question 1: Do you like animals?
Sample Answer (Band 8.0):
Yes, I absolutely love animals. I’ve always been an animal lover since childhood. I think animals have this incredible way of lifting your spirits. Whenever I feel down, just playing with my cat or taking my dog for a walk helps me snap out of a bad mood.
Key vocabulary:
- lift your spirits
- snap out of
Question 2: What’s your favorite animal?
Sample Answer (Band 8.0):
My favorite animal is the dolphin. They’re highly intelligent, sociable, and they’ve saved humans from danger in real life! I once read about a pod of dolphins that fought off a shark to protect swimmers. That just blew my mind.
Key vocabulary:
- a pod of dolphins
- fight off
Question 3: Did you have a pet when you were a child?
Sample Answer (Band 8.0):
Yes, I had a parrot named Coco. He was quite a character – always mimicking my dad’s voice and causing confusion. He really kept the whole family on their toes. Looking back, I think having Coco helped me become more responsible at a young age.
Key vocabulary:
- mimic
- keep someone on their toes
Question 4: Are people in your country fond of animals?
Sample Answer (Band 8.5):
Definitely. In Vietnam, you’ll see people walking dogs, feeding stray cats, even rescuing injured birds. There’s been a noticeable shift lately – people are speaking out more against animal cruelty and advocating for adoption instead of buying pets. It’s heartening to see society wake up to animal welfare issues.
Key vocabulary:
- stray cats
- speak out against
- wake up to something
4. IELTS Speaking Part 2 Sample – Describe an animal you like
Task:
Describe a wild animal that you find interesting.
You should say:
what it is
where it lives
what it looks like
and explain why you find it interesting.
Sample Answer (Band 8.5):
One wild animal that fascinates me is the red panda. Unlike the more famous giant panda, the red panda is much smaller and looks more like a raccoon. It has reddish-brown fur, a long, bushy tail with rings, and adorable round eyes. They live in the temperate forests of the Himalayas and parts of China.
What makes red pandas interesting is their elusive nature. They’re nocturnal and tend to avoid humans, which makes them quite mysterious. I watched a documentary about them once, and I was surprised to learn that they use their tails to cover themselves like a blanket when sleeping in the cold.
Sadly, they are classified as an endangered species due to deforestation and climate change. I think what draws me to them is not just their appearance, but also their struggle for survival. It’s heartbreaking to know that such unique creatures are on the brink of extinction, largely because of human activity. I genuinely believe we should step up efforts to protect them and preserve their habitat.
In fact, I’ve made it a personal goal to one day visit a conservation center and maybe even volunteer to help with research or care. I think animals like the red panda remind us of how rich – and fragile – our biodiversity is.
