The IELTS exam has become an essential international English certification, opening doors to study, work, and immigration opportunities in many countries around the world. For those preparing to conquer the IELTS, understanding the exam details—especially the timeline for receiving results—is crucial for planning your future with confidence.
In 2025, a major shift occurred in the IELTS testing format in Vietnam: paper-based IELTS exams were officially discontinued as of March 29. This means that computer-delivered IELTS is now the only format accepted in Vietnam.
This transition not only offers a more modern testing experience but also significantly shortens the wait time for results. So, exactly how long does it take to get your computer-delivered IELTS results? This article provides the most detailed and up-to-date information to help you stay in control of your plans.
How long does it take to get computer-delivered IELTS results?

If you choose to take the computer-delivered IELTS with IDP Vietnam, you will receive your results very quickly, usually just 2 days after completing all Listening, Reading, and Writing sections. This is the official timeline announced by IDP Vietnam for all their testing locations nationwide.
Additionally, according to official announcements from the British Council, the turnaround time for computer-delivered IELTS results is 1 to 5 days from the date you complete all test components. This is a significant improvement over the previous paper-based format, which typically required a wait of 13 to 15 days.

Factors that may affect result processing times
Although computer-delivered IELTS results are usually available very quickly (within 2–5 days), in rare cases, this may take longer. Factors that could cause delays include:
- Technical issues: If the grading or result reporting system encounters technical difficulties, processing and release times may be delayed.
- High volume of candidates: During peak IELTS seasons (e.g., near the end of the year or study abroad application windows), a surge in test-takers may slightly extend processing times.
- Objective factors: Public holidays, Tet, or force majeure events may affect the operating schedule of the testing board.
- Test integrity review: IDP notes that results may be delayed if the testing board determines that a review of the test is necessary to ensure accuracy, objectivity, and security.
What to do if your results are delayed?
If you have waited more than 5 days (from the test date) and have not received your results (for IDP, it is recommended to wait 3–5 days to be sure), you should proactively contact IDP Vietnam for assistance.
When contacting them, provide your full personal details (full name, date of birth, candidate number, test date, and test location) so that support staff can check your status and provide the most accurate information.
